Do eyelash extensions damage my natural lashes?

Contrary to some popular beliefs, eyelash extensions do not harm your natural lashes in any way. Our certified eyelash technicians are trained to attach the extensions to fully grow eyelashes only. Baby (young) lashes are untouched to ensure that they grow to their full length, so you will never have to be concerned that you won’t have any of your natural lashes left when you get eyelash extensions.

Eyelashes, much like all the hair on the rest of our bodies, have a natural life cycle and will fall out when it’s time. So, if you think that you see more lashes fall out when you get extensions, this is only seemingly so due to the noticeable thickness of the extensions. The rate of eyelash loss would not increase just because you got extensions. As for the adhesive agent, it is applied directly to the eyelash without touching the skin. Therefore it is a safe procedure that should not irritate your eyelids.

What is the application process?

You relax with your eyes closed and there is no pain as it is a non-invasive procedure. It is so relaxing that most clients fall asleep. An under-eye gel pad will be used to cover your lower lashes. During the process a natural eyelash is isolated and a extension lash is glued onto your natural eyelash approximately 0.5 mm from the base of your eyelash, so neither the glue not the synthetic lash has contact with the skin.

How do I take care of my eyelash extensions?

  1. Do not get your lashes wet for at least 24 hours

  2. After 24 hours please keep your extensions clean – clean them gently with a designated lash cleanser. Bodily oils that travel onto your extensions will break down adhesive if not removed by cleaning. Failure to clean your lashes will not only result in poor retention, but the build up of bacteria, and can lead to eye infections.

  3. Do not use any eye make-up for at least 24 hours

  4. Do not steam or use sauna rooms for the first 48 hours

  5. Avoid placing your face directly under the shower stream

  6. Do not use cosmetic’s that contains oil. Never use oil based products on your extensions.

  7. Do not use water proof mascara, water proof makeup, and eyelash curlers

  8. Do not rub your eyes and pick or pull your eyelashes

  9. Use oil-free foamy eye makeup remover

  10. If you use eye cream, make sure to apply at least 1 hour prior to sleep to avoid it transferring onto your lashes

  11. Avoid using cotton pads on or around your eyes

  12. Use special eyelash sealer daily to keep your lashes conditioned and to extend the life of the extensions

  13. Brush lashes gently and daily from the top down to avoid tangling

  14. Visit your technician for touch-ups every 2 – 4 weeks to replace any outgrown lashes

How long do my extensions last, and how often should I come in for a refill?

If you take good care of your eyelash extensions, they should last you up to 6 weeks after application. However, with the natural growth and loss of your eyelashes, your eyelashes may not look as full at 6 weeks. Therefore it’s suggested that our clients return every 2-4 weeks for a touch-up or refill to maintain that full luscious look.

Can I wear eye makeup or use mascara on my eyelash extensions?

With the voluminous look of eyelash extensions, you most likely will not need to use mascara on them. However, if you prefer to apply mascara for an extra dramatic look, we recommend that you use a water-based mascara. Remember not to use any oil-based makeup removers because they can potentially weaken the adhesives used to bond the eyelashes.

How long does the application take?

A full set can take between 1.5-2.5 hour, depending on the set of lashes you desire. It is a meticulous procedure that requires patience and concentration so therefore it should not be rushed and clients can leave with a perfect set of lashes.
